J. Reuben Clark’s Warnings

Posted by Connor on August 16th, 2006

“…I say unto you with all the soberness I can, that we stand in danger of losing our liberties, and that once lost, only blood will bring them back; and once lost, we of this Church will, in order to keep the Church going forward, have more sacrifices to make and more persecutions to endure [...]

On January 23, 1996, Joe Wright was the guest chaplain for the Kansas House of Representatives. Wright is the pastor of Central Christian Church in Wichita. He offered a prayer of repentance that was written by Bob Russell, pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
The prayer is as follows:

Deceiving the Elect

Posted by Connor on August 15th, 2006

We have many warnings about what will happen (and what is happening) in the last days. We are in the thick of it right now. There is ample scriptural prophecy about what is to come.
Are the prophecies in the scriptures sufficient? I think not—that is the beauty and blessing of modern revelation. [...]

Bohemian Rhapsody… I mean, Grove

Posted by Connor on August 12th, 2006

Groves are mentioned throughout the bible in connection with idolatry and sexual sin. The Bible Dictionary defines “grove” thusly:
In Hebrew, called Asherah (of which the plural is Asherim or Asheroth), either a living tree or a tree-like pole, set up as an object of worship, being symbolical of the female or productive principle in [...]

Connor the Cynic

Posted by Connor on August 11th, 2006

Dustin commented on a recent post that he thinks I’m a cynic.
Am I?
While my beliefs and attitudes might come off as cynical, I don’t think that they’re unfounded. I had been preparing a post after a scripture study this past weekend to explain just this (i.e., why I believe what I believe re: the [...]

Notable Quotes from Freedom to Fascism

Posted by Connor on August 11th, 2006

The other day I had the opportunity to see a screening of Freedom to Fascism. It was an interesting movie to watch. Much of the things I had already heard and researched, but it was a nice compilation of related quotes, court cases, events and news. It was especially interesting to watch the [...]

No More Liquids on Planes

Posted by Connor on August 10th, 2006

So much for bringing makeup, hair gel, or toothpase on an airplane. Now, all liquids and gels are banned from being taken on board and airplane, in response to a recent attempt by “Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom” to create an ad-hoc bomb on an [...]

The Faith of Mahonri

Posted by Connor on August 8th, 2006

Mahonri Moriancumer, known to readers of the Book of Mormon as the “Brother of Jared”, was a man of faith—so much so that his brother frequently requested that he be the one to make requests of the Lord. The first example in the Book of Ether illustrates this:
And the brother of Jared being a [...]

There Is Enough And To Spare

Posted by Connor on August 8th, 2006

Some people are of the mind that our consumer-driven society is rapidly depleting the earth’s natural resources. They argue for conservation, for minimization, and for better self-control. They argue for water conservation, gasoline conservation, and all worthy efforts seeking to slow down man’s usage of what the earth can provide us with.
But why?

The United States in Prophecy

Posted by Connor on August 7th, 2006

There will be two great political parties in this country. One will be called the Republican, and the other the Democrat party. These two parties will go to war and out of these two parties will spring another party which will be the Independent American Party. The United States will spend her strength and means [...]

Transform Your Face

Posted by Connor on August 7th, 2006

I stumbled across a website on digg that lets you transform your face. It’s pretty freaky what it can do.
Here are three shots using the transformer. The first is the original, in front of a waterfall at Yellowstone National Park. The second is what the transformer says I would look like as an [...]
