As of today, we are no longer living in the America our Fathers founded.

Tracking the Trillions

Posted by Connor on October 17th, 2006

Almost five years ago, CBS ran a story about a statement made by Donald Rumsfeld on the eve of what has become known the world over as 9/11.
On September 10, 2001, Donald Rumsfeld held a press conference to announce that 2.3 trillion dollars were unaccounted for.
“According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 [...]

Legislating Morality

Posted by Connor on October 17th, 2006

Last week somebody posted on Sustain’d a link to an article titled “Rights, Wrong, and the Law”. The article discusses the subject of legislating morality.
One of the oddest, most harmful political beliefs to emerge in the past 50 years is the notion that one cannot legislate morality. What utter nonsense. Man has always legislated [...]

Bush’s Deepening Deficit

Posted by Connor on October 16th, 2006

Our prophet has told us that we need to get out of debt. With a (highly likely) economic collapse on the horizon, one would think our government would be wise to heed the prophet’s counsel as well. Fat chance.
I was intrigued to find on the Bureau of Public Debt’s website that in the past [...]

Married Couples are the New Minority

Posted by Connor on October 16th, 2006

The Seattle Times has an article stating that for the first time, married couples are in the minority.
The American Community Survey, released this month by the Census Bureau, found that 49.7 percent, or 55.2 million, of the nation’s 111.1 million households in 2005 were made up of married couples — with and without [...]

The Abundant Life

Posted by Connor on October 15th, 2006

The theme of our sacrament meeting today was “The Abundant Life”. The following are some of my notes and tangential ideas and thoughts.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
The [...]

Frogs and Flies

Posted by Connor on October 15th, 2006

The scriptures speak of various things that will happen before the Lord’s second coming. One of them is flies:
Wherefore, I the Lord God will send forth flies upon the face of the earth, which shall take hold of the inhabitants thereof, and shall eat their flesh, and shall cause maggots to come in upon [...]

Check out this video… Makeup and Photoshop have completely changed our society’s perception of beauty. How sad.

Here’s a before and after:

Smiles

Posted by Connor on October 14th, 2006

I just got back from the temple. I think my favorite part of being in the temple is the feeling of camaraderie and brother/sisterhood. Everybody smiles at each other. Everybody. As Elder Franklin D. Richards of the Seventy testified:
As we do temple work, we develop a spiritual kinship with our Heavenly [...]

Mexico is a Whining Baby

Posted by Connor on October 13th, 2006

The Associated Press is reporting that Mexico is threatening to tattle-tale on us to the United Nations because we want to build a border fence (although who knows when or if it’ll actually happen).
Give me a freaking break.
Mexico’s foreign secretary said the country may take to the United Nations a dispute over the United States’ [...]

Don’t Vote Republican

Posted by Connor on October 13th, 2006

Over at By Common Consent there is a post suggesting that we not vote Republican for the midterm elections.
The author of the post makes a distinction between issue/ideological voting and approval voting. I agree with the author that it’s high time we use the approval voting method and root out the corruption and power-hungry [...]
