Wise or Stupid

Posted by Connor on December 31st, 2006

Tonight was the New Year’s Eve First Presidency Youth Fireside. What a great way for the youth to spend New Year’s Eve on a Sunday.
While instructing the youth on how to make good choices in the upcoming years and throughout their lives, President Hinckley said:
You can be wise and happy, or stupid and miserable.
That [...]

Immediate Counsel

Posted by Connor on December 31st, 2006

I find it interesting how quickly I am counseled by the Lord. When I make a mistake, I frequently find out quickly what it was I did wrong, and what I need to do better. Perhaps He deals with me thusly because were it any other way, I would forget, move on, and [...]

Impeachment Proceedings against Bush

Posted by Connor on December 30th, 2006

Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney filed articles of impeachment against President Bush a couple weeks ago. It’s about time a congress(wo)man had the backbone to realize that this dictator has gone way too far.
The following statement was issued by Congresswoman McKinney to sum up her reasoning behind the impeachment initiative:

Balance

Posted by Connor on December 29th, 2006

In my discussions with friends and family, some people have expressed the need for “balance” in a given issue. I am sometimes seen as an “idealist” in my views and so those who suggest such a stance are attempting to harmonize my stance with one less extreme.
Here’s my problem with “balance”. [...]

Light the Darfur Wall

Posted by Connor on December 28th, 2006

Most of us have heard of the ongoing Darfur conflict in Sudan.
It’s estimated that 2.5 million people have been displaced, and around 400,000 killed in the conflict.
Last week I came across the Darfur Wall website. The site provides this description:
400,000 numbers cover The Darfur Wall. Each represents a person killed in [...]

Some Thoughts on the Birth of Jesus

Posted by Connor on December 24th, 2006

A friend forwarded me the the following story written by her friend, from whom I obtained permission (and the preceding summary) to post it here for others to read. I highly suggest you read it, especially during this time of the year where we focus our thoughts more on the story of the Nativity [...]

A Christmas Letter

Posted by Connor on December 22nd, 2006

Some of you may have seen this already, but for those who have not, it’s worth reading.
Dear Children,
It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. Maybe you’ve forgotten that I wasn’t actually born during this time of the year and that [...]

Why We Fight

Posted by Connor on December 21st, 2006

Last night I watched the documentary “Why We Fight”. Several thoughts came to my mind as I watched it. The following are a few I thought I’d share.
The film starts with a portion of President Eisenhower’s intriguing farewell speech:
Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American [...]

Melting My Money

Posted by Connor on December 20th, 2006

Your coins are now more valuable when melted down than they are at face value.
The Associated Press has recently reported that the metal used to create a nickel costs the U.S. Mint 6.99 cents and the metal inside a penny costs the Mint 1.12 cents. After production costs, the Mint spends a total [...]

Have you ever wondered what was in the part of the Book of Mormon which Moroni was not allowed to include in the gold plates? Does it bother you that the Church was [...]

10 Bucks to Save a Life

Posted by Connor on December 19th, 2006

I just came across C. Jones’ blog post about Nothing But Nets.
The organization allows you to donate $10 to buy a net that will go to Africa and allow a family to sleep at night without being eaten alive by mosquitoes. 3,000 African kids die each year from malaria, and the $10 [...]

Tag, I’m It

Posted by Connor on December 19th, 2006

I’ve been tagged by Chris to share five things you might not have known about me.

I was born with a piece of skin hanging off the side of my head, in front of my ear. Rumors that it was an absorbed twin are highly exaggerated and fallacious. I promise. Or, at least, I [...]
