As quoted over and over again by our church leaders:

<em>"America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."
-- Alexis de Tocqueville</em>

So let us "cheerfully do all things that lie within our power" to help America remain good! I am so grateful for the gospel and the blessings it brings. It gives us much needed balance in our lives -- a sense of responsibility and vigilance to fight against evil, and the calm reassurance that the Lord is ultimately in charge and knows what is best. We can be grateful for what we have and know life is good, without becoming complacent or ignorant of Satan's increasing influence in our world. Righteousness is also increasing in the world, let us actively be part of that force!

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly . . . .
Did I not define our country by its people? Can one not love her country and feel blessed to live here? Trust me, the Zambians love their country too and would have said the same thing. And they totally understand why I love mine.
It is not arrogant or alienating to love one's country.
Do you feel that the Zambians are arrogant to love their country? Or do you feel alienated by their patriotism?
And if you do not feel our country is great, go ask all the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world who would move here in a heartbeat if they could. . .
They seem to see what you do not.

Great thoughts, but I disagree with one premise - that life is good because our country is go great. Smacks of arrogance. Life is good because of the hope of the Gospel's message, and because of good children of God, but NOT because of a country! Our country is way down on the list in many areas, health care, freedom of press, and others. Many other countries outshine us in many areas. It also alienates those same children of God who live in countries other than your beloved USA. You mention briefly "voting the bums out" but this is really not possible the way we do elections in our country. (Black box voting is only the tip of the visible iceberg.) It will indeed take much effort to make our country become the best in the world, effort that will not bear fruits unless we expose the Gadiantons who are currently destroying our country.

Life is good indeed, when the Lord's hand we see,
ourselves, His image, where darkness was, is He.

Life is good indeed, but darkness looms in spite,
of all we would that He would see, and give us of His light.

Life is good indeed, for though we search, and darkness flee,
His hand in all is plain to see, for all He has He'd give to me.

Lise is good indeed, I see it there through faith anew,
though clearly darkness lies, it hopes to block my view.

Life is good indeed, alas I see and reason why,
the darkness knows, and so do I, you see, His time is nigh.

Yes, Merrilee!!

Forgive a random literary moment, but I can't help but be reminded of :

<blockquote>"...that all life is perhaps a knot, a tangle, a blemish in the eternal smoothness. But why should this make us unhappy? Let us rather love one another, and work and rejoice. I don't believe in this world sorrow."

Miss Honeychurch assented.

"Then make my boy think like us. Make him realize that by the side of the everlasting Why there is a Yes---a transitory Yes if you like, but a Yes."

(<em>A Room with a View</em>, E.M. Forster, chapter II "In Santa Croce with No Baedeker")</blockquote>
