Mothers Without Borders Thanksgiving 2007 Fast

Just sent this out to my mailing list:

I’m excited to send this email out, because it’s another chance I get to talk about our brothers and sisters in Zambia who I was able to spend time with this summer.
A special fast is being organized by some Mothers Without Borders volunteers for this Thanksgiving season. We all plan to fast the Sunday after Thanksgiving (11/25), going without two meals that day (and after all those mashed potatoes, it’ll be good to take a break!) and donating the money saved to Mothers Without Borders to be used in the many feeding programs for those who need it most.
Yesterday, my wife and I watched a documentary that two volunteers made a couple years ago showing how the HIV/AIDS epidemic has affected Zambia. It was so great for me to watch this, since I met many of these orphans and volunteers during my time “on the other side” this summer. It’s 50 minutes long, and shows a lot of what I was able to experience. If you’ve got the time, you can watch it online.
And so, as I think of how blessed I am, and how much I’ll be eating in a few weeks, my mind can’t help but think of those who have no cause to celebrate, nor food to eat. I think of the many people I met who eat once a day (if that). I think of the extreme poverty. I think of the kids and their beaming smiles, displaying optimism and hope despite horrible living conditions.
It’s for those kids (like this one) that I plan to fast after Thanksgiving this month.
Will you join me?
If you’re interested, please take two seconds to register here. As the date approaches, everybody who has signed up will be sent a link where they can donate the money online for this special fast, the proceeds of which will go to the feeding programs that Mothers Without Borders is involved with.
Please share this information with family and friends, so that we can all unite our prayers, share some of our resources, and make a difference!
Connor
