Hindsight

As the old adage goes, “Hindsight is always 20/20”. So often in life, I think we (or maybe it’s just me?) grow frustrated when we don’t get what we want, when we want it. We ask the Lord for things we desire (as we are counseled to do) yet wonder why He holds out on us sometimes.

One of the hardest lessons for me to learn in life is the nature of the Lord’s time-line. His ways are not my ways, and His thoughts are higher than my own. He knows what is best for me, and when it is best to receive it. While I might be praying for a righteous desire, He might consider it best if I wait a while before receiving it, that I might work that much harder for it, appreciate it that much more when it arrives, or any number of other reasons.

Truly the Lord knows what He is doing. We might not understand what that is many times until we are able to look back with hindsight and observe how the Lord guided us to receive such a great blessing. Looking back we are perhaps able to observe why it was necessary that the Lord wait.

Until we are able to look back after an event with hindsight to see the Lord’s hand guiding us, we must have faith in the Lord’s time-line. He knows what is best for us and can bless us far more than we ever could have imagined, if only we will have patience and trust in Him.
